University of Dhaka, Aug. 19 — The deadline for gathering and submitting nomination forms for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections has been postponed by a day.

A message issued by the Chief Returning Officer on Monday (18 August) stated that the choice was taken due to the strong interest from students.

The announcement stated that numerous students failed to obtain their nomination forms during the designated period because of a large crowd in the halls and main offices.

As per the updated timetable, nomination forms can be picked up until 5pm on Tuesday (19 August), and the deadline for submitting them has been pushed back to 5 pm on Wednesday (20 August).

In the meantime, claims have emerged that multiple candidates faced interference while attempting to gather nomination documents at Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall.

Eyewitnesses reported that certain leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) tried to gather documents from the hall, but since the deadline had already expired, a group of local students caused disruption and stopped them from taking the papers.

The members of the JCD movement eventually departed without filing their candidacy papers.

In the later part of the evening, the JCD branch at Dhaka University organized a press conference at Madhur Canteen, calling for an inquiry and disciplinary measures against those involved in the incident.

As a reply, the university administration has established an investigation committee led by Assistant Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Robiul Islam.

Other members are Professor Dr. S. M. Arif Mahmud from the Anthropology Department, Assistant Proctor Dr. A. K. M. Nur Alam Siddiqui, and Assistant Proctor Atia Sanjida Shormi.

The panel has been requested to confirm details, evaluate the circumstances, and provide suggestions about the event.

It was instructed to present its report by 12 pm on Tuesday (August 19).
