Ruiru Golf Club’s Female Captain, Rhoda Mukami, is determined to establish the club as a premier golf destination while promoting diversity and making a positive social contribution to the game.

“I have always aimed to make the game more accessible to women and young people,” she says.We have made efforts to turn Ruiru into a secure and inclusive environment where gamers of every age can succeed.

Since assuming her position, Mukami has managed record-setting tournaments in Ruiru, such as the renowned Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) 54-hole competition, the Ruiru Ladies Open GOTY (Golfer of the Year), and the September Pendant, events that have boosted women’s golf and provided female athletes with remarkable exposure.

But her most proud moment occurred outside the golf courses.Via her Lady Captain’s CSR program, Mukami gathered backing for pregnant teenagers held in the hospital due to unpaid medical costs.

“Several people were kept in the hospital due to unpaid medical expenses,” she states.Observing them exit with their infants, grinning and having regained their self-respect, was unforgettable.

Mukami’s romantic involvement with golf started somewhat unintentionally. She was drawn to the serene concentration of golfers walking along the fairways, and even though her initial swing at the driving range felt clumsy, she became instantly hooked.

Under the direction of experienced members and her coach, she found that golf was more than just a hobby; it was a challenge involving strategy, mental focus, and even a type of healing.

She progressed from informal games to becoming a strong player in club and interclub competitions, then took on a leadership role in 2024 when she was chosen as Lady Captain.

She acknowledges the support of her committee, advisors, club administration, and family in assisting her to manage the challenges of leadership alongside her personal and professional life. For Mukami, golf reflects life.“Although you may encounter a difficult situation, you can recover with elegance. It imparts patience, humility, and concentration,” she states.

As her leadership continues, Mukami aspires for her legacy to focus on inspiration, making women and young golfers feel they genuinely belong.“The future is for those who have faith in the beauty of their aspirations. At Ruiru, we are aiming high,” she states.
