The star-studded cast of a new Harry Potter adaptation now includes Keira Knightley as one of the most disliked characters in the series.

As fans await the forthcoming HBO series based on the popular book series, last month Audible revealed that they were in the process of creating the audio recording for the immersive series, Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions.

Scheduled to launch on Audible in the next few months – it will feature audiobooks accompanied by ‘original music and authentic sound recordings to deliver a captivating audio environment’ and includes over 200 actors involved.

It has already been disclosed that Hugh Laurie will provide the voice for Albus Dumbledore., while Matthew Macfadyen will portray Lord Voldemort.

In the meantime, Riz Ahmed has been added to the cast as Professor Snape, while Scottish actress Michelle Gomez will provide the voice for Professor McGonagall, and Cush Jumbo will serve as the narrator.

A few weeks later, additional names have been added to the list – including Keira Knightley, who will provide the voice for the cruel Dolores Umbridge, a character portrayed by Imelda Staunton in the movies.

A 40-year-old actor gained recognition through Bend It Like Beckham, later appearing in Love Actually, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Pride & Prejudice, and Atonement.

Here are the other actors set to appear in the upcoming adaptation as well.

Kit Harington as Professor Lockhart

Actor Kit Harington, known for his role in Game of Thrones, is set to join another major series by portraying Professor Gilderoy Lockhart.

Portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the films, the character was the only one that J.K. Rowling mentioned she based on a real person.

In the tales, he is a well-known writer and magical figure who has authored multiple books detailing his experiences with dark creatures and holds the position of Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher during the events of Chamber of Secrets.

Nevertheless, he is not a popular person, as his blatant self-promotion and arrogance annoy many who meet him, eventually leading to the revelation that he is a fraud.

Iwan Rheon portrays Professor Lupin

Welsh actor Iwan Rheon, who is most recognized for his role in Misfits, will portray Remus Lupin.

He made his debut in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as the new professor teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts, and was also a fellow student at school with Harry’s father, James.

Portrayed by David Thewlis in the films, his character ultimately faced a tragic demise.

Ruth Wilson in the role of Bellatrix Lestrange

It’s challenging to distinguish the wild and frightening Bellatrix Lestrange from Helena Bonham Carter, who portrayed the character in the last four Harry Potter movies.

However, the task of narrating her in the book recordings is undertaken by Ruth Wilson – who has previously been featured in Jane Eyre, Luther, The Affair, and His Dark Materials.

Ambika Mod as Nymphadora Tonks

Three years back, Ambika Mod made a remarkable entrance with a memorable performance in the medical comedy-drama This is Going to Hurt.

Last year, she once more moved viewers to tears with her portrayal of Emma Morley in the Netflix version of David Nicholls’ book One Day.

In the Harry Potter series, she will now provide the voice for Nymphadora Tonks – an Auror working within the Ministry of Magic and also a spy for the Order of the Phoenix. The character was portrayed by Natalie Tena in the films.

Leo Woodall as Bill Weasley

Another cast member is Leo Woodall, who starred with Ambika in One Day and has since been featured in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and the upcoming WWII film Nuremberg.

He will portray the eldest Weasley sibling – Bill – a part that brought Domhnall Gleeson recognition after he performed it on the silver screen.

After completing his studies at Hogwarts, Bill took a job as a curse-breaker at Gringotts Wizarding Bank, and later became involved in the fight against Lord Voldemort through the Order of the Phoenix.

Simon Pegg as Arthur Weasley

A new member of the cherished Weasley family will be portrayed by Simon Pegg, known for his roles in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

After Arthur Williams portrayed the patriarch Arthur, Simon will now take on the role, also recognized for his work with the Ministry of Magic.

James McAvoy portraying Mad-Eye Moody

Brendan Gleeson captivated viewers with his performance as Mad-Eye Moody, a part that will now be taken on by James McAvoy.

In a statement, he said: ‘I am completely excited to portray the highly dedicated Mad-Eye Moody in these energetic audio versions from Pottermore and Audible.’

He’s a complex character, always moving between fierce determination and surprising instances of insight. Portraying his authoritative nature was really enjoyable.

The performer has previously been seen in The Chronicles of Narnia, X-Men, and His Dark Materials.

Gemma Whelan in the role of Professor Sprout

Miriam Margolyes once humorously suggested that people who have “lost their balls” shouldn’t be fans of Harry Potter, yet many fans remain equally captivated by her portrayal of Professor Pomona Sprout, the Head of Herbology at Hogwarts.

This time, she will be portrayed by Gemma Whelan, a veteran from Game of Thrones, who has also appeared in Upstart Crow, The End of the F***ing World, Killing Eve (2020), and DI Ray.

Matt Berry as Sir Cadogan

The IT Crowd, The Mighty Boosh, and What We Do in the Shadows actor Matt Berry will appear as a portrait displayed on the wall of Hogwarts in the show.

He is assuming the role of Sir Cadogan – most famous for testing students and striving to show his courage.

The first of the seven audiobooks, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is scheduled for release on November 4, with Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets set to come out on December 16.

The remaining books will be published on a monthly basis in the upcoming year, beginning with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on January 13, 2026, followed by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on February 10, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on March 10.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is set to debut on April 14, while the last book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is planned for release on May 12.

Newcomers Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester, and Arabella Stanton (who is featured in the HBO series) will portray Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger respectively in the initial three audiobooks, whereas Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan, and Nina Barker-Francis will lend their voices to the trio in the subsequent four.

Last week, Audible and Pottermore also revealed Mark Addy as Hagrid, Alex Hassell as Lucius Malfoy, Daniel Mays as Dobby, and Sara and Avni Deshmukh as the Patil Twins.
