Stunning visuals of our sky and galaxy have been showcased after thousands of submissions to the Astronomy Photography of the Year contest.
One notable image is a jet flying in front of the sun, photographed by Chinese photographer Zhang Yanguang.
The image, captured in Xiamen, south-easternChina, received high recognition in the ‘People and Space’ category of the competition.
The victors are exhibited at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, southeast.London.
