Cinema enthusiasts from the West Midlands: our newest live Film Stories event is coming to the Midlands Arts Centre on Wednesday, September 17th.

Presented by Simon Brew (that’s me), these programs cram as much as possible into 90 minutes. To give you an idea of what’s involved, here’s a general overview of what occurred last time:

  • Unusual instances of human behavior in a movie theater
  • Emphasizing a variety of movies, directors, and happenings in the West Midlands region
  • A video clip in which Nicolas Cage yells “testicles” at full volume
  • An examination of stunt actors in films, highlighting the stories behind one or two remarkable stunts
  • An in-person conversation with an action film director and stunt performer based in Birmingham, who shared stories about why their leg was in a large brace, working onGladiator IIet al., and their new film
  • The tale of how Ronald Reagan was almost choked by a monkey on film
  • Five or six small cinematic tales involving28 Years Later, Shazamand Manchester United Football Club
  • And then! A display of some of the items that were featured in film magazines from the 1910s to the 1950s. Er, there was a lot of what was seen in the room, stays in the room. Some of that stuff waswild.

In the end, there’s a quiz featuring prizes that money can absolutely purchase.

In the upcoming episode? Two incredible film industry guests, featuring exclusive first-time footage of a brand-new science fiction movie. Plus, a highly unconventional and ambitious solo performance.

The performance begins at 7:30 PM, but feel free to join us for a drink in the bar starting at 6:30 PM as well.
