SHANGHAI – Pakistan and China inked three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Tuesday aimed at enhancing cooperation in the areas of agriculture, environment, and public transportation. The agreements were signed during President Asif Ali Zardari’s trip to China. This development underscores both nations’ dedication to broadening their partnership in crucial sectors of growth. The ceremony occurred in Shanghai, with President Zardari present in attendance.
A memorandum of understanding is dedicated to creating a Controlled Agriculture Science and Education Park, designed to boost food security and agricultural efficiency. A second agreement centers on setting up a vocational institute at Shennong College to provide farmers with high-level training and cutting-edge technology. At the same time, the third MoU supports eco-friendly waste management via a tire recycling initiative. These efforts are anticipated to enhance environmental practices and technological availability in Pakistan.
During a different meeting, President Zardari met with Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holding, in Shanghai. He was joined by First Lady Asifa Bhutto Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla. The president was provided with an in-depth overview of Chery Auto’s international accomplishments and its upcoming growth strategies in Pakistan, especially concerning electric vehicle (EV) technology. Zardari commended Chery’s increasing focus on Pakistan and expressed support for its efforts in generating employment opportunities for young people.
President Zardari pledged the government’s full backing for the local production of electric buses and automotive components. He further urged the company to consider investing in partnerships with Pakistani businesses in sectors such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, and mineral resource exploitation. The administration seeks to establish a favorable atmosphere for technology sharing and production via encouraging policies.
Chairman Yin of Chery provided perspectives on the company’s international activities and dedication to technological advancement. He also indicated a desire to enhance relationships with Pakistan. The gathering included Sindh ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, and Pakistan’s envoy to China, Khalil Hashmi. This visit represents a major development in Pakistan-China economic cooperation and investment.
