The STEM Africa Fest, the biggest STEAM event for kids in Africa, has once again shown its dedication to supporting young Africans by offering practical learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) along with skills needed for the future during its latest 2025 session. The event took place at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos and attracted more than 3,000 participants, underlining its key role in developing the next wave of inventors and the significance of STEAM education in defining Africa’s future.
The festival this year, titled ‘AI for Good,’ highlighted how artificial intelligence can be used as a means to address practical issues and the increasing influence of experiential science and technology education in Nigeria. The event included various STEM activities, tech career discussions, and hands-on STEAM labs, covering topics such as AI and Machine Learning, Coding, Robotics, Virtual Reality, Engineering, Art, Drone Technology, Science experiments, and more. These engaging workshops offered children an immersive experience, enabling them to discover the marvels of technology and its practical uses.
Commenting on the event’s influence, Jadesola Adedeji, co-founder of STEM Africa Fest and co-organizer, emphasized the festival’s goal of providing children with hands-on skills and igniting a love for innovation. She stated, “Every year, STEM Africa Fest reminds us of what can be achieved when kids are given the opportunity to explore, ask questions, and create. This goes beyond STEM — it’s about revealing potential and getting a new generation of young Africans ready to take charge in a technology-focused world. We are proud to offer an experience that is both fun and profoundly life-changing.” she added.
Additionally, Titi Adewusi, co-founder of 9ijakids and co-organizer of the event, commented on the success of this year’s festival in Lagos, stating: “STEM Africa Fest goes beyond a single day — it serves as a pathway to equip Africa’s upcoming generation of problem-solvers, creators, and analytical minds. The skills gap is a common issue, and we feel that collaborations like STEM Africa Fest are the key to overcoming it.”
One of the standout moments of the festival was an engaging live AI showcase led by Malik Afegbua, a globally recognized Creative AI Technologist and the mind behind The Elder Series. He demonstrated to children how artificial intelligence can serve as a strong ally in creativity and narrative development. The day also included interactive workshops on robotics, programming, virtual reality, drone operations, scientific experiments, and STEAM-related crafts, allowing kids to experience technology through practical applications. The event’s excitement was further heightened by the much-anticipated raffle, where three fortunate participants—Olayinka Samuel Favour, who received a tablet, and FisajuJoel Champion, who won a smartwatch—were awarded thrilling prizes. The raffle brought a sense of joy and festivity throughout the festival and highlighted the event’s dedication to inclusivity, participation, and fun learning.
