The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has introduced advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to improve traffic control, boost security monitoring, and ensure greater public safety throughout the Lagos area.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the authority’s general manager, revealed this in a statement released on Thursday in Lagos.

Bakare-Oki stated that the shift from conventional analog methods to cutting-edge digital intelligence aligns with the state government’s forward-thinking objectives.

He mentioned that “this highlights the administration’s strong commitment to using innovation in the effort to achieve sustainable urban transportation, improved safety, and operational excellence.”

Using aerial surveillance and high-resolution monitoring systems, the UAVs will enable LASTMA to take a proactive approach in managing and regulating traffic throughout the state.

The introduction of the device marks a significant turning point in Lagos’ traffic management system, smoothly transitioning the authority from traditional reactive enforcement to proactive, data-based operations.

Bakare-Oki stated that the drones would offer real-time aerial monitoring, allowing for faster responses, better safety results, enhanced emergency coordination, stronger security systems, and the development of a more orderly driving culture.

He assured the public that the implementation would follow strict privacy protections, ethical guidelines, and legal requirements, thus strengthening confidence in the system’s openness and reliability.

“The authority reiterates its firm commitment to consistently innovate in traffic management, decrease travel durations, minimize road accidents, and protect lives and assets across Lagos State,” he stated.

This achievement marks another strong confirmation of the THEMES+ Agenda led by Gov. Sanwo-Olu, where technology and innovation act as essential forces in creating a safer, smarter, and more livable Lagos.

The LASTMA boss stated that this modern technological advancement would enhance LASTMA’s quick response to emergencies, accidents, and other traffic-related situations, along with the existing LASTMA Toll-Free Hotline — 080000527862.
