The AI City initiative in Phuket is progressing rapidly, with numerous public service areas set to be managed through the use of artificial intelligence.

Phuket has already been acknowledged as a Smart City, yet the global landscape is evolving swiftly, requiring the city and province to continuously adjust, stated provincial governor Sophon Suwannarat.

He expressed the statement following the signing of a memorandum of understanding regarding the Phuket AI City project with CT Asia Robotics Co Ltd on Tuesday.

The province is set to enter the AI era in multiple areas, such as environmental management, waste and wastewater treatment, public health, and traffic systems, he stated.

In the public health field, the province will obtain three ‘Dinsaw’ AI medical assistants from CT Asia Robotics, to assist with health examinations and senior care. The robots are set to be deployed at Vachira Phuket Hospital by the start of next year.

Chalermpol Punnotok, CEO of CT Asia Robotics, mentioned that the robots can conduct initial health assessments and basic diagnoses, and can connect directly to hospital databases, thus decreasing employee workloads and enhancing diagnostic precision.

He mentioned that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plans to introduce an AI-based breath analysis system for cancer screening in Phuket soon.

Mr. Sophon stated that AI will not only enhance Phuket’s reputation as a top-tier tourist spot but also establish it as Thailand’s leading city in AI-powered development.

He also mentioned Bangkok and Pathum Thani, two cities that are already utilizing AI to control road traffic, and stated that the Department of Highways is examining the potential of implementing similar technology on the island.

Artificial intelligence can assist in cutting down on waste and pollution, reducing leftover waste, lowering the count of empty garbage trucks, and boosting recycling rates, the governor stated.
