A mobile application created by renowned nutrition expert Professor Tim Spector enables users to discover the fibre content of their meals simply by capturing a photo.
Studies indicate that a diet rich in fiber enhances digestive well-being, supportsweight lossand may also reduce the risk of heart disease, strokes, and type 2 diabetesdiabetesand various types of cancer.
However, only 4 percent of Britons are meeting the NHS-recommended daily amount of the nutrient –present in fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains.
ZOE, a nutrition science company established by Professor Spector in 2017, has introduced an update to its application that can quickly assess the nutritional value of a dish by taking a picture of the meal.
The goal is to assist users in steering clear of highly processed components and determine if they are consuming sufficient fiber.
The application, now available and priced at £10 per month, also features anAIA chatbot offering nutritional guidance and a tracking tool that informs users if they are consuming sufficient fruits and vegetables.
Professor Spector became well-known during the pandemic when helaunched the ZOE Covid symptom tracker app, which was adopted by almost five million British citizens.
In 2022, his company launched a nutrition app that offered dietary guidance through the use of a blood sugar tracker. Over 130,000 individuals have utilized it since then.
Now the application has been re-launched, with an emphasis on assisting users in making improved dietary decisions.
A study conducted by the company revealed that almost half of Britons lack confidence when attempting to purchase healthy items.
Professor Spector stated, “With ZOE’s latest image-based feature, it’s never been easier to monitor what truly impacts your digestive well-being – the variety of plants in your diet and whether you’re consuming sufficient fiber.”
Many of us don’t meet these standards, but research shows that consuming 30 or more distinct plant types each week is among the most effective methods to enhance the variety of your gut bacteria, which subsequently promotes improved well-being.
