The leadership of the Doosan Group is traveling to Silicon Valley, United States, in an effort to boost innovation by incorporating AI (artificial intelligence) into the group’s manufacturing-based business processes. This move comes from the understanding that it will be challenging for conventional manufacturing to thrive without embracing AI.

Doosan Group announced on the 23rd that Vice Chairman Park Ji-won and other top executives will travel to Seattle and Silicon Valley from the 22nd to the 25th of this month to meet with leading figures in the global AI industry, such as Amazon, NVIDIA, and Perplexity. The group includes Vice Chairman Jeong Yeon-in from Doosan Enerbility, President Yoo Seung-woo of Doosan Corporation, Vice President Kim Min-pyo of Doosan Robotics, and Chief Strategy Officers (CSOs) from various major subsidiaries, including CSO Kim Do-won from the holding company. This is a rare visit, with almost all group executives attending except for Chairman Park Jung-won.

During their visit, Doosan’s leadership will examine AI technology facilities at major tech companies including Amazon and NVIDIA, meet with key stakeholders, and consult with researchers at Stanford University’s AI institute, Stanford HAI (Human-centered AI), regarding strategies for applying AI. They will also engage in discussions about AI advancements with experts from consulting firms McKinsey and BCG, and interact with startups specializing in Physical AI and Agent AI, such as Perplexity and Physical Intelligence.

Special attention will be given to conversations about “Physical AI,” a technology that merges artificial intelligence with robots, machines, sensors, and hardware to perform real-world tasks, rather than being restricted to software. Doosan plans to examine how this can be utilized in its manufacturing-oriented businesses, such as energy and construction equipment. Vice Chairman Park reportedly told executives, “We need to incorporate AI in every relevant area to maintain a competitive edge. Time is running out.”

On the 22nd, which marked the first day of the journey, Vice Chairman Park and the group toured Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle. Amazon utilizes an AI-powered voice assistant called Alexa and has extensively incorporated AI into analyzing customer behavior, managing logistics warehouse activities, and implementing robotic automation. Furthermore, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has made significant investments in AI technologies for developers and businesses.

The group will subsequently go to NVIDIA, a key player in the AI environment, to examine innovations and examples in Agent AI and Physical AI. They intend to explore future approaches and possible partnerships for implementing Physical AI in various industries.

A representative from the Doosan Group stated, “The purpose of this visit is to gain a competitive advantage in the AI era by investigating innovations in every aspect—implementing advanced technologies, attracting AI specialists, fostering an AI-supportive work environment, and promoting AI-based operations.”
