Apple‘s latest iPhonehas been available for just four days, but already users are facing issues.

Several users are reporting that the iPhone 17 Pro models are prone to scratching and getting scuffed quickly, leading to visible damage.

And they are genuinely unimpressed that a premium product beginning at £1,099/$1,099 isn’t somewhat more durable.

On X (formerly Twitter), one user in Hong Kongshared images of his iPhone 17 Pro inthe new ‘Cosmic Orange’ shade

The vibrant exterior, constructed from aluminum, features a white spot where a small portion of the frame has been damaged.

The X user, @aldyei, mentioned in his post: “I just received the new iPhone 17, and it already has a scratch! Very disappointing.”

They continued, “If this aluminum scratches so easily, I’m concerned it might begin to reveal the metal beneath.”

Apple, this is not what I anticipated from a high-end product!

The matter, currently gaining attention online under the hashtag ‘#Scratchgate’, is impacting numerous purchasers of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, which werereleased on Friday

X account @ViralBased said in a postthe same day that early iPhone 17 purchasers are noting widespread damage to the device’s surface.

It stated: ‘The issue is particularly severe with the Pro models, as Apple replaced titanium with aluminum.’

Signs of damage appear rapidly on the case, and Apple Stores are declining to exchange these devices.

@ViralBased shared four images of iPhone 17 Pro devices that show damage – one featuring a cracked Ceramic Shield on the back.

The Ceramic Shield, designed to offer iPhones additional durability, features ceramic nanocrystals integrated into the glass – however, it is not completely impervious to damage.

A Twitter user from Ontario, Canada, @darewecan, mentioned that he observed scratches on iPhone 17 Pro units at an Apple Store.

He postedWow – just visited the Apple Store to check out the iPhone 17 Pro scratch problems I’ve read about online, and it’s definitely a real issue.

Each blue Pro model featured minor scratches on the ceramic glass back, along with some of the Orange ones.

Silver, of course, was less noticeable. I tend to be careless, so there’s no way I can’t get a blue Pro now – these scratches would bother me.

An Apple enthusiast in London, @joinfaizanj, shared: ‘The quality of Apple products is declining. The iPhone 17 Pro had a scratch on the surface just a day after being in the store!’

And a user, @olivercollins09, mentioned that he had canceled his purchase of the iPhone 17 Pro in Deep Blue following reports of scratches from other customers.

In his annual scratch test video, YouTuber JerryRigEverything recommends that buyers purchase a protective case for their iPhone 17 Pro models, referring to ‘scratch gate’ as a genuine problem.

In the video, he shows that the rectangular camera strip on the back of the Pro models can be readily scratched by coins and keys – although both are very difficult to bend.

“There’s no way to prevent the unavoidable damage unless you never place your phone down, or invest in a case,” the YouTuber states.

Your iPhone 17 Pro is destined to develop cracks, and there’s no way to prevent it.
