A new period has started in which artificial intelligence (AI) creates perfect blind dates. On the 22nd, local time, Meta revealed that it has introduced an AI-powered “Dating Assistant” feature to its social media (SNS) platform, Facebook Dating.
This functionality is presented as an AI-powered chatbot that processes user-submitted profile details and links them with appropriate matches. For instance, if a user interacts with the Dating Assistant chatbot by saying, “Find me a woman who resides in New York and works in the technology sector,” it will suggest a compatible match. The AI also offers a tool to guide users on enhancing the attractiveness of their profiles. Meta also introduced a feature named “Meet Cute,” which randomly presents users with potential matches each week, using an algorithm. Meta has not revealed the specifics of this algorithm. These features will be launched one after another in the United States and Canada.
This is the first instance where AI has directly suggested and linked individuals according to users’ specific requirements. In the past, dating application companies had only incorporated AI features to improve profile attractiveness, propose date spots or classes, and recommend suitable conversation themes.

Meta’s choice to incorporate AI into its dating platform is driven by the waning popularity of dating apps that gained traction during the COVID-19 pandemic. Individuals started favoring in-person matchmaking instead of online options, and many showed signs of exhaustion from using dating apps. Bumble, which has more than 50 million users globally, cut 240 jobs in May—30% of its entire staff. Match Group, the American company behind Tinder, Hinge, and other dating services, also experienced the departure of approximately 300 employees, or 13% of its workforce.
As a newcomer to the market, Facebook Dating seeks to bring new vitality to the stagnant industry using AI and strive to take the lead. Neha Kumar, Facebook Dating project manager, said, “People are tired of swiping through hundreds of profiles (like in Tinder’s format) to find matches and dates.”
