The Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), Morocco’s National Defense Administration, India’s Ministry of Defence, and TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) announced on Tuesday the opening of the TATA Advanced Systems Maroc (TASM) facility in Berrechid.
The facility, outlined in the investment agreement finalized by the parties in September 2024, represents the outcome of a strategic collaboration designed to enhance Morocco’s industrial capabilities within the defense industry, according to the National Defense Administration’s statement.
Situated in the Berrechid industrial area, the TASM facility is currently commencing the manufacturing of WhAP 8×8 armored combat vehicles, intended for the Royal Armed Forces and promising global markets.
Initially, the TASM plant will use 35% locally sourced parts, a percentage that is expected to increase to 50% through continuous investment in training and the inclusion of domestic suppliers.
The Berrechid facility is anticipated to generate 90 direct and 250 indirect employment opportunities, with a phased plan aiming for a significant rise in output over the coming years.
It will also provide Moroccan professionals with chances for education, career growth, and technical skills connected to the manufacturing and upkeep of cutting-edge military vehicles.
Fitted with contemporary facilities, the TASM site will act as a regional hub for exporting WhAP 8×8 vehicles, mainly to Africa.
As a globally acknowledged leader in defense, TASL contributes its expertise, advanced technologies, and worldwide connections to the project, while promoting knowledge sharing and local innovation, the statement ended.
This leading initiative aims not only to progressively provide the nation with industrial and technological self-sufficiency in defense, but also to serve as a driving force behind the growth of a domestic defense sector and the generation of specialized employment opportunities.
