The 10th Ulsan Ulju World Mountain Film Festival (UMFF, with Executive Chairman Eom Hong-gil) is scheduled to take place from September 26 through 30 at the Yeongnam Alps Complex Welcome Center in Ulju County, Ulsan.

Celebrating its 10th year, the film festival—Asia’s unique international mountain film festival that links “mountains, nature, and people”—will review its accomplishments from the last ten years and showcase a plan for what lies ahead.

This year, 110 entries from 43 nations have been received, with *Girl Climber* scheduled to be the opening film. *Girl Climber* showcases the rigorous journey and determination of a female climber striving to survive in the harsh conditions of mountain climbing.

A dedicated segment named “10 Years, 10 Works” has been created, giving viewers the chance to rediscover notable films presented by the festival during the last ten years. Furthermore, the “Hello, Trento!” section has been put together to highlight selected films from Italy’s Trento Film Festival, the world’s oldest mountain film festival, situated in Trento, a central city in the northern Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, between the Alps and the Adige Valley.

The program “Talking in Nature,” which links film messages to real life, stands out as a significant highlight this year.

One of the festival’s standout features is the involvement of “mountaineering icon” Reinhold Messner, who has been chosen to receive the Ulsan Ulju World Mountain Culture Award (UMCA). Messner is famous for being the first person to climb Mount Everest without extra oxygen and the first to conquer all 14 mountains in the Himalayas that exceed 8,000 meters in height.

As a renowned figure in the world of climbing, Messner has written more than 80 books since 1974 and has created and managed the Messner Mountain Museum since 2003. Additionally, he oversees the Reinhold Messner Foundation, which aids people living in high-altitude areas.

Eom Hong-gil, the Executive Chairman of UMFF, said, “Messner’s award represents the Ulsan Ulju World Mountain Film Festival’s recognition as a key center for global mountain culture. This year’s festival, with the theme ‘Coexistence of Nature and Humans, Messages of Challenge and Healing,’ is anticipated to highlight how films go beyond visual art to serve as a means of reflecting on life and society.”

He stated, “This year witnessed a record number of 996 entries from 71 countries for the international competition, highlighting the festival’s increasing global recognition.”

Throughout the festival, film showings and interactive activities will occur in various locations within Ulju County, fostering a celebratory environment where local people and visitors can interact.
