Janice Combs, the mother of Sean “Diddy” Combs, is making an appeal for clemency on his behalf. In a letter addressed to US District Judge Arun Subramanian, who will determine the sentence for the founder of Bad Boy Records in October, she admitted to her son’s flaws.
“Regrettably, my son has committed some serious errors in his life,” she wrote in a letter obtained by E! News, “which I know he is aware of.” Although Diddy was found not guilty of the sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges in July, he was found guilty of two counts of transporting individuals to engage in prostitution, which could each result in up to 10 years in prison. Nevertheless, prosecutors officially asked for a prison term ranging from 51 to 63 months, as reported by NBC News at that time.
In the meantime, Janice urged the judge to think about a lighter punishment, highlighting how her son overcame his early trauma—such as the passing of his father and uncle—to achieve success as a “highly successful” entrepreneur and to be a “thoughtful, affectionate” father to his children.
“I will never justify any wrongdoing by Sean,” she continued. “I was always very strict with him during his upbringing. I ask you to show compassion and let my son join his family at the dinner table. Let him raise his children and teach them to be respectful, pursue an education, and live as God’s children with love in their hearts.” The 84-year-old also mentioned that four of Diddy’s children—Quincy, 34, King, 27, and twins Jessie and D’lila, 18—lost their mother Kim Porter in 2018.
I implore your honor to allow him to assist them during the recovery from the loss of their mother,” she wrote, “and the anguish and sleepless nights they have endured since Sean’s imprisonment.
In a last-ditch effort, Janice stated that her health “has worsened over the past few years” because of two brain operations and her diabetes, which has had an impact on her heart.
“I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be here,” she continued, “but I’d really like to see him with his children once more.” E! News has contacted Diddy’s representatives for a statement and hasn’t received a response yet.
