Indian singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has finally addressed the controversy linked to his movie Sardaar Ji 3, which drew criticism for including Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. During a live concert on Wednesday, Diljit likened the backlash he faced to the ongoing India-Pakistan cricket matches, highlighting the inconsistency in public reactions.

In a video that has recently gone viral from the event, Diljit informed fans that the movie was filmed in February, long before the Pahalgam attack on April 22. Nevertheless, he was labeled as “anti-national” by some Indian media channels. “At that time, the matches were taking place,” he mentioned, noting that cricket between India and Pakistan still happens today, while his film faced strong backlash.

Diljit showed compassion for the Pahalgam incident, which India attributed to Pakistan — a statement that Pakistan has refuted. He highlighted that he denounces terrorism and stands in support of justice for the victims. “Anyone involved should receive severe consequences,” he mentioned. However, he pointed out that his film is unrelated to the attack, and sports relations between India and Pakistan continued despite it.

He also spoke about his decision to stay quiet during the peak of the controversy. “I held everything in,” he mentioned. “The media kept portraying me as unpatriotic, but everyone is aware – a Punjabi Sardar can never be a traitor.” His heartfelt comments received cheers from the audience in Kuala Lumpur.

This year, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees had requested that Dosanjh be banned and even urged the cancellation of his Indian citizenship. The film’s global release, which remained the same as the original, also faced backlash, particularly in India where changes were sought because of Hania Aamir’s part.
