Singer Hasan Raheem’s wedding in August drew the interest of fans on social media, as videos of the artist dressed in traditional Gilgit clothing became popular. In an interview with Haroon Rashid on the BBC Asian Network, Raheem attributed the emphasis on cultural traditions at the event to his mother.
Footage of Raheem performing at his wedding spread across social media, with the singer remembering how he stood up “every five minutes” to demonstrate his moves to the guests. Inspired by his Gilgit background, his performances were widely praised, leading Raheem to quip, “If a music career doesn’t work out, we’ll always have something to do. We can become dance choreographers for weddings.”
Emphasizing his cultural heritage, Raheem mentioned that his shuqa coat, paired with a pakol hat, was a family treasure handed down from his maternal grandfather to his father, and he humorously noted that his cousins had “become influencers for six days,” joking about the possibility of them making money from the viral wedding videos. He added that taking away their phones, as his mother had proposed, would probably have led to family conflict.
Raheem’s wedding not only marked his personal achievements but also showcased the elegance of Gilgit customs, drawing attention across the country.
