Dhaka, September 25 — New discussions have taken hold of the Harry Potter fan community as whispers indicate that HBO’s upcoming version of The Philosopher’s Stone might include a female version of Lord Voldemort.
The latest series, promoted as a new interpretation of J.K. Rowling’s magical universe, is set to present Voldemort sooner than in the original movies — potentially via flashbacks and his control over Professor Quirrell.
Entertainment insider Daniel Richtman shared on X that HBO is holding auditions for both male and female actors to play Voldemort. “This means there’s a chance we might witness a female Voldemort in the show,” Richtman stated.
The report has sparked intense online discussion, with some fans coming up with nicknames like “Lady Voldemort” or “She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.” Opinions are strongly split. “Nope. Thanks, but no. I don’t care if I sound sexist. Voldemort shouldn’t be a female character. Throw the whole thing away if they go ahead with that,” a user wrote. Another quipped: “I give you Lady ‘She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’ Voldemort!”
Speculation has also surrounded high-profile casting choices. Cillian Murphy, known for his role in Oppenheimer, addressed the rumors on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast. “I’m not aware of anything. It’s really challenging to keep up with what Ralph Fiennes does. The guy is a true acting icon. So, best of luck to whoever takes on that role,” he mentioned.
Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed Voldemort in the initial movies, once commended Murphy, describing him as a “fantastic choice.” Viewers have also suggested names like Tom Hiddleston, although HBO has not yet confirmed any casting decisions.
In the original movie series, Ralph Fiennes took on the role of Voldemort, whereas Christian Coulson, Richard Bremmer, and Ian Hart portrayed younger iterations of the character. In contrast to the films, HBO’s show is anticipated to include the Dark Lord from the very first season, with flashbacks depicting the murder of Harry’s parents and Voldemort’s initial return.
