A 53-year-old French woman also became a victim of online trolls following her disclosure that she had given away the funds to support what she thought wascancertherapy for the film star.

Following her admission to a mental health facility earlier this year, Ms. Deneuchatel has once again attracted media attention.Franceprior to the launch of her latest publication,Je ne serai plus une victime (I Will No Longer Be a Victim).

A former interior designer who became an author mentioned that she felt isolated and was in a dissatisfying marriage with a ‘selfish and controlling wealthy businessman’ when she got a message from an unknown person onInstagram, asserting that she is Brad Pitt’s mother.

After she was introduced to the American actor and started communicating through the messaging platform Telegram, she claimed she became ‘addicted’ to talking with him and lived in ‘total fantasy’.

When the fraudster slowly started requesting money from her, she felt a sense of worth and affection—traits that were absent in her marriage.

“My husband placed me in a difficult situation,” Ms. Deneuchatel said to the French newspaper Le Monde.

He claimed I should be satisfied as a prize. I had lost all my freedom. There was a time when assisting ‘Brad’ felt simpler than helping myself.

Several months later, she was able to end her marriage, which she claims is “the only good outcome” from the fraud.

She also shared that her relationship issues led her to develop feelings for the fake celebrity initially, as she opened up to him about her husband, while he disclosed his struggles with alcoholism, loneliness, and his separation from actress Angelina Jolie.

Their relationship was such that, over 14 months, from April 2023 to June 2024, she sent nearly £700,000 to the person she thought was Brad Pitt.

At first, the money was intended to cover customs fees for gifts he had purchased for her. These presents never arrived, yet ‘Brad’ provided believable explanations.

Later, he had to cover hospital expenses, as he persuaded Anne that he was battling kidney cancer and required significant funds for life-saving treatment, including a transplant.

His personal bank account, he mentioned, had been blocked during the divorce process with his former wife, whom he had divorced in 2016.

The fraudster also started sharing AI-created images of Brad Pitt, as if taken from inside a hospital bed.

‘Brad’ subsequently entered a coma, postponing the production of his new blockbuster, which led his online partner to incur penalties for the Hollywood studio he was affiliated with.

Madame Deneuchatel, having long since sunk too deep to question the man she cherished, faithfully complied.

She was eventually compelled to come to her senses following a request to cover the cost of a£13,000 journey aboard a private aircraft.

Feeling emotionally drained and cut off from loved ones, Ms Deneuchatel informed the authorities about the fraud.

The individuals involved in the scam were revealed to be three men residing in a house located in Nigeria.

She shared her experience on a French television program earlier this year and captured global attention.

The men, pretending to be ‘Brad,’ contacted her one final time, saying: ‘Love, my Telegram account has been taken over by fake users. I will now do everything I can to protect our safety. I truly apologize if my carelessness led to this.’
