Just months after female astronauts around the globe made significant strides in space exploration, Moroccan neurosurgeon Joudia Touri is competing in the international SERA program, aiming to secure her own spot for a spaceflight.
For Touri, whose research centers on the brain and nervous system, the project is more about exploring how space travel affects human biology rather than creating visual displays, an area she thinks may lead to discoveries in neuroscience and medicine.
Her initiative, currently in the initial phase, relies significantly on online presence, with voting now available on X and set to launch on Instagram and TikTok soon.
Touri has already received significant support from Moroccans on the internet, although she recognizes the need to expand her influence to move forward.
In addition to the personal challenge, she presents her candidacy as a statement regarding the capabilities of Moroccan women in challenging areas, aiming to encourage upcoming generations to engage in science and technology on an equal footing.
