Rory McIlroy versus Scottie Scheffler. The much-anticipated major showdown that fans had been eagerly awaiting on the final day of the 2025 Ryder Cup has taken place.
Europe holds an 11.5-4.5 advantage in the mid-tournament score, with focus on whether McIlroy maintains his perfect record or if Scheffler, who hasn’t won yet, makes a resurgence.

On the morning of the 28th, the U.S. and European teams revealed the sequence for the 12 individual matches, set to start at 12:02 p.m., local time (1:02 a.m. Korean time on the 30th) on the afternoon of the 29th.
The top-ranked American, Scottie Scheffler, and Europe’s second-ranked player, Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland, were named for the fourth match. They have competed together in the Ryder Cup across three straight competitions since 2021, yet they have never played against each other directly. In other events, they faced off in the 2023 WGC Dell Technologies Match Play tournament’s third and fourth place playoff, which Scheffler won 2&1.
The inaugural face-to-face competition between the two top players in the Ryder Cup will begin at 12:35 a.m. Eastern Time on the 28th (1:35 a.m. Korean time on the 29th).
Even though the two have never competed against each other directly, in previous Ryder Cups, the team with the more energetic player came out on top. In 2021, when the U.S. team prevailed, Scheffler, who was playing in his first event, secured two wins and one tie, including a win over the then-world number one, Jon Rahm. McIlroy had a tougher time, managing only one win and three losses.
On the other hand, during the 2023 European Rome event, McIlroy guided his team to four victories and one defeat, whereas Scheffler had a quiet performance with two losses and two ties, and Europe emerged as the champions.
The tournament this year, up to the matches on Saturday the 27th, has followed a pattern similar to the last one. McIlroy achieved one victory and one draw on the 26th, along with two wins on the 27th, now having three wins and one draw. Scheffler faced two defeats each on the first and second days, resulting in four losses overall. Scheffler is now the first world No. 1 to experience three straight losses starting from the first day of the Ryder Cup, setting an unfortunate record.
Europe also holds the overall score of 11.5 to 4.5. They outperformed the home team, the U.S., with five victories, two defeats, and one tie on the first day, then added six more wins and two losses on the second day.
Europe can guarantee a minimum of 14 points and win the trophy by securing two victories and one draw (3.5 points) in the 12 singles matches on the final day. If there is a tie, the team that won the previous tournament keeps the cup. The U.S. must earn at least 10 points to regain the trophy.
The remaining singles matches feature the following participants: 1. Cameron Young against Justin Rose (U.S. versus Europe format), 2. Justin Thomas versus Tommy Fleetwood, 3. Bryson DeChambeau facing Matt Fitzpatrick, 5. Patrick Cantlay versus Ludvig Åberg, 6. Zander Schauffele versus Jon Rahm, 7. J.J. Spaun versus Sepp Straka, 8. Russell Henley versus Shane Lowry, 9. Ben Griffin versus Rasmus Højgaard, 10. Collin Morikawa versus Tyrrell Hatton, 11. Sam Burns versus Robert MacIntyre, and 12. Harris English versus Viktor Hovland.
