A 2-meter-long shark corpse, weighing around 100 kilograms, was discovered in the waters near Yeongdo-gu, Busan.
The Busan Maritime Police reported on the 30th that the body was found approximately at 7:57 a.m. in the sea close to the Busan Maritime Police’s designated pier in Dongsam-dong, Yeongdo-gu.
As per the Busan Coast Guard, a police officer stationed on the 1503 ship, which was moored at the private dock, noticed the carcass floating on the right side of the boat. The shark is believed to be around 2 meters in length and weigh about 100 kilograms, with no indications of being caught or having any harpoons attached.
The body was discovered in a highly decomposed condition, and the Coast Guard has reached out to the National Institute of Fisheries Science for precise species determination. The Coast Guard intends to hand over the remains to the local authorities.
A representative from the Coast Guard said, “If you come across the body of a big sea creature like a shark, kindly notify the Coast Guard right away.”
