The Mayor of Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, stated that the Prime Minister of Pakistan has offered a token amount of 20 billion rupees for Karachi, whereas the city actually needs at least 200 billion rupees. Simply being in Islamabad cannot address the issues faced by Karachi; the city needs sustained efforts at the local level. This year, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will invest 28 billion rupees in development projects, with an additional 10 billion rupees allocated for initiatives at the town level. The city belongs to its residents, not to contractors. It is disappointing that the federal government is favoring the interests of contractors. Those who failed to construct roads for nine years now appear before the public—on what basis?

He shared these opinions while speaking to the media following the inauguration of Imam Mehdi Park and Sports Ground at New Rizvia Society. At this event, Deputy Parliamentary Leader in the City Council Dil Muhammad, elected officials, and numerous residents were in attendance. Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab mentioned that this park was constructed at a cost of 150 million rupees. The 5.5-acre site was once a landfill, but it has now been developed with contemporary recreational facilities. The park features a jogging track, football and cricket fields, lighting systems, and additional services. He stated, “Where there used to be garbage, now there is greenery. From a religious and social standpoint, greenery represents continuous charity, and this project serves as an outstanding recreational space for Karachi’s residents. When intentions are sincere, Allah supports. We have kept our commitments and will continue to do so, ensuring that Karachi becomes a center of progress and prosperity.”

The Mayor stated that, in alignment with the vision of Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, major development initiatives are being implemented in the city. The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on University Road is advancing quickly, and tangible measures are being taken to address the residents’ water and sewage challenges. He mentioned that following the rains, drainage systems have been secured, and efforts are being made intensively to restore infrastructure. This year is expected to be one of growth and prosperity. Notable progress will be made in resolving water and sewage issues, and the completion of overpasses and underpasses will also occur this year.

He added that certain individuals who obtain their authority through political philanthropy are also present in Parliament. If they genuinely aim to serve the public, our doors remain open. The Mayor of Karachi stated that our press briefings are not founded on accusations but on actual achievements. We have accomplished our goals without complaining about limited authority. It is everyone’s duty to implement the manifesto and vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Bilawal Bhutto consistently asks, “What has been done for the people?” Guided by this approach, we are working across all districts, leading to the resolution of citizens’ issues.
