The West African Economic Community (ECOWAS) Commission, with assistance from the European Union (EU) and the Netherlands government, has organized a gathering of the Steering Committee for the Regional Clean Cooking Initiative in West Africa (ReCCAWA).

The gathering took place on September 29, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria, and convened various stakeholders to assess advancements and align approaches for expanding access to clean cooking options in the sub-region.

The €15.5 million ReCCAWA Initiative aims to increase availability of clean, effective, and cost-effective cooking energy options throughout the ECOWAS area.

Supported by the European Union and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the project is being carried out by the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), and Spanish Cooperation (AECID), in collaboration with Energising Development (EnDev). The initiative will last for a duration of four years.
