Pakistan, Oct. 3 — The upcoming film ‘The Taj Story,’ featuring celebrated Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal, has generated controversy before its launch, as a new discussion has emerged on social media following the actor’s posting of the movie’s poster online. The film, directed by Tushar Amrish Geol, also stars Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, and Senha Wagh alongside Paresh Rawal.
The image depicts Rawal lifting the dome of the Taj Mahal, exposing a statue of Lord Shiva within.
As reported by Indian media, certain schools of thought suggest that the Taj Mahal was built on the site of Shiva’s temple known as ‘Tejo Mahalaya’.
The debate was sparked by a book written by historian PN Oak, which claimed that an older monument predated the one linked to the Hindu ruler Jai Sing, existing before Mughal rule in the Subcontinent.
However, the book encountered similar criticism.
In 2022, Rajneesh Singh submitted a request asking a fact-finding committee to look into the history of the Taj Mahal and inspect 22 closed rooms for Hindu deities.
In 2022, BJP MP Diya Kumari, hailing from the Jaipur royal family, asserted that the land where the Taj Mahal is located was owned by her ancestors. On social media, several people think that Paresh Rawal’s new film ‘The Taj Story’ supports the idea that it was previously a Shiva temple.
