The governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has given his approval for the appointment of Dr Suraj Sulaiman as the new Statistician-General and Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics.

The announcement, included in a statement released on Monday by the governor’s press secretary, Sunusi Bature, becomes effective immediately.

PUNCH Online states that the appointment comes after the end of the term of the previous Statistician-General, Associate Professor Aliyu Isa Aliyu, who has been recently promoted to the role of Commissioner for Livestock Development.

Bature mentioned that Yusuf has instructed for the official handover and takeover ceremony to take place between Monday and Friday this week.

The statement says, “The appointment, which becomes effective immediately, comes after the conclusion of the term of the previous Statistician-General, Associate Professor Aliyu Isa Aliyu, who has been promoted to the role of Commissioner for Livestock Development.”

Sulaiman is a scholar and mathematician who has significant expertise in research, instruction, and data analysis.

He obtained a PhD in Mathematics from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (2015–2018), submitting a doctoral dissertation entitled “A Novel Approach to Calculating the Projective Polynomial Resultant Using Dixon, Jouanolou, and Jacobian Matrices.”

He also earned an MSc in Mathematics from Yasar University, Turkey (2012–2014), and a BSc in Mathematics from Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil (2006–2010).

Sulaiman started his higher education at the College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies in Kano, earning a Diploma in Mathematics Education between 2004 and 2006.

Yusuf, in his message of congratulations upon becoming the Director General of the Kano Bureau of Statistics, commended Sulaiman for his thoroughly deserved promotion, stating his belief that Sulaiman’s extensive academic and professional background will help reorient the Bureau for improved service provision.

The leader reasserted his administration’s dedication to improving data-based governance, highlighting that accurate statistics are essential for efficient planning, openness, and long-term development in Kano State.
