The Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, received recognition from the Nigeria Union of Teachers, being presented with the Golden Award of Excellence in Education and Teachers’ Friendliness at the 2025 World Teachers’ Day event that took place at Eagle Square in Abuja on Sunday.
This information was included in a statement released on Monday by Unubi Emmanuel, the chief press secretary of the deputy governor.
He cited the NUT as stating that the award was given in acknowledgment of Governor Ododo’s exceptional efforts toward the well-being of teachers and the advancement of the education sector in Kogi State.
As he stated, “The award was presented to the Governor by the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, to the sound of cheers and applause from union members who praised the Governor’s dedication to enhancing the teaching profession and education within the state.”
The Deputy Governor was joined at the event by the Deputy Majority Leader of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmodu Shehu Seidu; the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Hilary Ojoma Egwudah; Hon. Wemi Jones; Hon. Timothy Ojoma; Hon. Atulukwu Victor Levi; Dr. Helen Adeniyi; and Engr. Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf, who serve as Commissioners for Education, Agriculture, Transport, Innovation Science and Technology, and Works respectively.
Also present in the group were the former representative of Idah Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Inah Hussein; the former Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Omebije, Director-General of Kogi Community Watch and Ancillary Matters, Hon. Muhammed Nasiru Alfa, Director-General of Protocol at Government House, Ibrahim Suleman, the Acting Zonal Chairman of Kogi East APC, Ogwu Abdul Alhasan; Adviser to the Governor on Illicit Drugs and Trafficking, Eunice Achimugu; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Ethics and Values, Sheikh Sani Momoh Musa; Executive Chairman of the Idah Local Government Area, Alaji Alilu, and the Provost of Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Femi Fashagba, along with others.
The honor is a clear acknowledgment and appreciation from the NUT towards Governor Ododo’s steadfast dedication to teachers’ well-being and his government’s strong contributions to education.
“It is certain that the award will encourage the State Government to continue and enhance its initiatives for educators and the education sector overall,” Emmanuel remarked.
