The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has imposed a complete prohibition on all types of farewell events for graduating students, cautioning that any breach will result in serious disciplinary actions.

As stated by the university’s registrar, Ademola Bobola, in a notice released on Tuesday, it was collectively decided by the university administration to completely prohibit unauthorized activities on campus following a Senate meeting and final resolution on Monday.

“No form of farewell celebration, such as signing T-shirts or playing music, will be allowed,” he stated.

Bobola mentioned that the choice was taken to ensure order, adherence to rules, and proper academic behavior within the university.

The removal of the ban was implemented to completely eliminate sign-out festivities and other forbidden actions, such as signing T-shirts, playing music, and large gatherings near departments, schools, or institutions.

Additionally, it is no longer allowed to drive around on campuses in any type of vehicle, as unauthorized vehicles will be prohibited from entering the campuses during the final week of the second semester exams.

“The notice cautioned that unselective driving around the campuses in any type of vehicle will not be allowed,” the circular stated.

Additionally, photographers are prohibited from setting up photo displays or exhibits for farewell events.

“Photographers will not be allowed to set up photo displays or exhibitions for the celebration,” he stated.

Those responsible for final-year students are therefore urged to avoid campus areas, particularly on the final day of exams.

“Parents and guardians of students in their final year are urged to avoid the Faculty, School, or Institute grounds, particularly on the last day of the exam,” he stated.

The school administration has promised to take action against students who breach this regulation. Offenders, nevertheless, may face serious consequences, such as being removed from the institution, expelled, or having their certificate revoked.

Individuals within the university community are requested to pay attention to the aforementioned role and adhere to it strictly.

“Any breach will result in strict disciplinary actions, such as revocation of the certificate, suspension, and removal of the offenders,” he cautioned.

Furthermore, this restriction is not exclusive to UNIBEN, as other institutions such as the University of Port Harcourt, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Federal University, Lafia, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, and Kaduna Polytechnic have also introduced comparable limitations.
