The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) announced on Monday its plan to work with universities throughout Pakistan in order to enhance digital learning systems and exchange its knowledge in online education, with the goal of speeding up the nation’s shift toward advanced, technology-based higher education.
At the opening session of a five-day training workshop focused on the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Policy, AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood stated, ‘The move towards digital education is reshaping higher education in Pakistan. As a leading institution, AIOU aims to assist universities in embracing modern digital education approaches via our cutting-edge data center, Campus Management System (CMS), and Learning Management System (LMS).’
A workshop, organized by AIOU’s Directorate of Collaboration and Exchange with backing from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), gathered academic and technical representatives from prominent universities such as Quaid-i-Azam University, International Islamic University Islamabad, NUST, Bahria University, and COMSATS. The opening event was graced by Dr Abdullah Anwar (Deputy Director, Quality Assurance, HEC), Ayesha Ikram (Director General, Scholarships, HEC), and Dr Zahid Majeed (Director, International Affairs, AIOU).
Dr. Mahmood invited attendees to investigate AIOU’s detailed ICT facilities and evaluate how comparable systems might be adapted to improve productivity and availability within their own organizations.
Speaking to the attendees, Nasir Shah, Director General (Quality Assurance) at HEC, highlighted the significance of maintaining high standards in online education.
“Our objective is not to establish institutions that issue degrees without merit, but to encourage high-quality education. Universities require AIOU’s direction to develop efficient and reliable digital learning systems,” he stated.
The speakers emphasized the essential function of the ODL policy in improving academic quality and increasing fair access to higher education throughout the nation.
Twenty-five senior faculty members, information technology specialists, and institutional contact points are attending the workshop, which is anticipated to greatly enhance digital education capabilities across the country.
