The governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has urged cooperation to enhance the tertiary education system in the state.

Aiyedatiwa stated that the partnership was essential to tackle the housing issues experienced by students attending higher education institutions in the state, emphasizing that the government could not fulfill all their requirements on its own.

He mentioned this during a meeting with student delegates from Adekunle Ajasin University, located in Akungba Akoko, at his office in Akure, the state’s capital.

This information was included in a statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Wednesday.

As per the statement, the governor, who praised the students for their calm behavior, stated that since taking office, there have been no reports of disturbances or violent protests among the student population, a situation he attributed to their discipline and positive involvement.

He urged private investors to establish hostels inside and near educational institutions to support government initiatives and improve student safety.

“The government is unable to supply everything. There are constraints on resources. This is why we are urging investors to construct hostels for students either on or close to university campuses. It’s a feasible business opportunity that will also improve student safety,” he stated.

Aiyedatiwa emphasized his administration’s renewed emphasis on technical and vocational training, calling it essential for economic development and employment opportunities.

He stated, “We are focusing more on technical education. Investors are arriving, and they will require trained workers.”

He also promised to tackle the electricity supply problems at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, stating confidence that the matter would be resolved quickly to boost academic and research efficiency.

In line with his administration’s dedication to student well-being, the governor revealed the approval of five additional buses for student groups in higher education institutions within the state, with further additions planned.

He also reemphasized his administration’s dedication to promoting education and the growth of young people via scholarships, funding, and additional monetary measures.

In his comments, Kelvin Olaolu, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor for Students’ Affairs, thanked the governor for his consistent backing of the student population.

“In the history of student unionism in this state, we have kept things peaceful and orderly due to your leadership approach. You have acted like a father to us, and we thank you for your work in boosting bus allocations and providing assistance to private institutions,” he said.

This occurred a few days laterlecturersThe Academic Staff Union of Universities sought Aiyedatiwa’s urgent involvement to save the institution from what they termed an impending collapse.

The union expressed sorrow that the university had endured years of neglect, with employees owed wages and facilities in decline throughout the campus.
