The governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has praised the essential role teachers play in society, highlighting their key contribution to the future of education within the state.
As per a press release issued by the governor’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Wednesday, the governor called for recognition of teachers globally, with a special emphasis on the work of educators in Anambra.
Soludo thanked educators for their commitment and effort, highlighting that every person was raised by a teacher.
He stated, “You’re performing exceptionally well, and I’d like to point out that fundamental statistics indicate Anambra is at the forefront in several educational indicators.”
Teachers are essential to any educational system; the future of a community is closely connected to the standard of its educators and the instruction they deliver.
The leader mentioned that to address long-standing underinvestment in the education system, his administration effectively hired 8,115 teachers via a competitive selection process that attracted candidates from 18 states throughout Nigeria.
Reading and math skills have increased by more than 40 percent, and enrollment numbers have risen sharply since we came into power. This highlights the advancements achieved during my leadership.
We recognize the difficulties the state encountered when I took charge. Upon our arrival, we found that public education had been entirely overlooked and left behind, and we committed to bringing the sector back to its proper position.
“To keep this momentum going, we intend to hire additional teachers in the near future, making sure that Anambra keeps developing its educational environment. We will soon reveal the hiring of more teachers, as part of our continuous dedication to enhancing education,” he said.
As the governor’s statement echoes across the state, the emphasis on strengthening the teaching staff is regarded as a vital move in improving educational quality and ensuring a more promising future for Anambra’s children.
Additionally, during the event, the state Education Commissioner, Prof. Ngọzi Chuma-Udeh, spoke to the audience, recognizing the major impact that teachers have on individuals.
Chuma-Udeh also conveyed her dedication to supporting the continuous initiatives of the state government in the field of education.
These are the parents whose lives you have positively influenced. We acknowledge the essential role that educators have in molding the community’s future.
“We will keep highlighting the positive achievements of the Governor,” underlining the administration’s commitment to improving the standard of education and assisting the requirements of families in Anambra.
The head of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, together with the leader of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, emphasized the notable progress achieved by the Governor in the education field during the last three and a half years, while pledging ongoing backing for current programs.
They observed that during the present administration, class sizes have increased to 70 students or higher, primarily due to the introduction of free education policies.
The gathering was also utilized by an organization named “The Patriots” and the Association of Individuals with Disabilities to support the Governor and his Deputy for another term in office.
PUNCH Online reported on October 5, 2025, that UNESCO, ILO, Education International, and UNICEF highlighted the crucial role that teachers have in influencing education and national progress.
The groups mentioned that the 2025 theme, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” seeks to enable teachers to “fully utilize their skills and calling” while obtaining the assistance required to attain significant results.
They collectively called on governments, partners, and the global community to commit to considering collaboration as a standard approach in the teaching field, emphasizing that “only by fostering strong cooperation at every level can we establish education systems that are truly inclusive, fair, and robust across the world.”
International organizations further emphasized that sufficient financial support and enhanced well-being are crucial to ensure teaching is both fulfilling and effective.
