Sabatia constituency in Vihiga County’s schools have received advantages from Sh250 million allocated for infrastructure improvements during the last three years via the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The funding seeks to upgrade educational establishments into contemporary spaces that offer an ideal setting for students and educators.
After assuming office in September 2022, Clement Sloya, the Sabatia MP, has led significant changes in the education sector in the constituency.
He emphasized that the Sh250 million investment demonstrates his dedication to high-quality education and sustainable growth.
“The money has been allocated for different infrastructure developments, such as the building of contemporary six-story school structures, JSS classrooms, fresh restroom facilities, and major upgrades to current classrooms,” Sloya stated.
Sloya stated that the choice to construct high-rise buildings was influenced by the scarcity of land for school growth, particularly in regions with high population density.
He observed that these new structures not only address space limitations but also inspire students, thus enhancing the quality of education.
During a recent visit to active projects, Sloya restated his goal of establishing a supportive educational atmosphere for all children in Sabatia, highlighting that the funding goes beyond constructing physical structures—it is an investment in the community’s future.
New washing facilities have been set up in various primary schools, such as Ikobero Girls in Busali Ward, Lusengeli Primary in Wodanga Ward, Chavakali Primary in Chavakali Ward, Mulele Primary in West Sabatia Ward, Kigama Primary in North Maragoli Ward, and Ondeyo Primary in Izava/Lyaduywa Ward. These updated amenities are anticipated to greatly enhance cleanliness and increase student enrollment.
The upgrades and new developments have also provided advantages to several secondary schools, including Kivagala Primary in North Maragoli Ward, Havuyiya Primary in Chavakali Ward, Galoni Primary in West Sabatia Ward, Mwilitsa Primary in Busali Ward, Sabatia Primary in Wodanga Ward, Ondeyo Primary in Izava/Lyaduywa Ward, along with Chandumba Secondary in West Sabatia Ward and Bugina Secondary in Busali Ward.
Six-story school structures alleviate overcrowding and optimize educational space, which is particularly important in the urban and peri-urban areas of Sabatia.
In line with the government’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) implementation, the new JSS classrooms will support seamless transitions and sufficient support for junior secondary students.
School principals have commended the effort for greatly boosting student spirit and staff enthusiasm. A teacher, who wished to remain unidentified, noted that enrollment has risen and the educational atmosphere is now more respectful.
Local leaders and parents have also supported the initiatives, showing hope that enhanced facilities will result in improved educational outcomes and lower student attrition.
