Moroccan youth banned for two unlawful kicks to an opponent who was on the ground, Payakrut, during a Muay Thai match at Lumpinee Stadium

Abdessamie Rhenimi has expressed regret following his disqualification due to two unlawful ‘soccer kicks’ in his match against Payakrut at ONE Friday Fights 128 in Bangkok on Friday evening.

A Moroccan teenager received a red card in the middle of the second round at Lumpinee Stadium following a kick to his Thai opponent’s head while the opponent was already on the ground — the second such occurrence during the match.

In the first round earlier, Rhenimi had also targeted Payakrut with a comparable illegal strike just moments into their strawweight Muay Thai match.

The official quickly signaled for extra time and gave a yellow card, leading to a 10 percent reduction in the prize money.

When the same foul occurred in the second round, the referee intervened again — this time to stop the fight and disqualify the 19-year-old, as the crowd expressed their displeasure with boos. Payakrut, who had previously knocked Rhenimi down, was declared the victor by disqualification.

Footage from the event rapidly spread on social media, with numerous supporters demanding consequences and others advising ONE Championship against scheduling Rhenimi again.

The Petchsaman Gym competitor, nevertheless, issued a public apology on Saturday night, maintaining that the infractions were not deliberate.

I sincerely apologize to Payakrut. I wish him a healthy and strong recovery,” Rhenimi stated. “The fight was intense, and in the heat of the moment, my emotions took over. I wanted to win so much that I lost control and wasn’t thinking clearly.

I did not mean to do that, but I accept complete responsibility for my behavior. This does not reflect who I am, and it’s not the standard I wish to establish as a professional. I will gain insight from this experience and strive to improve.

Soccer kicks, which involve striking the head of an opponent who is on the ground, are prohibited under the regulations of ONE Championship, even during mixed martial arts matches. This move is allowed only in a few organizations, like Japan’s Rizin Fighting Federation.
