  • Manchester United’s female team has begun the Women’s Super League season with an undefeated record and currently stands in second place on the table.

Manchester United Women’s manager Marc Skinner seemed to make a subtle jab at the men’s team’s coach, Ruben Amorim.

Amorim has had difficulty producing consistently good outcomes, leading to numerous online speculations about him.

Skinner discussed his actions during penalty situations. His team recently defeated Vålerenga 1-0 in their Champions League debut.

Man United’s head coach seeks to challenge Amorim

Maya Le Tissier netted the sole goal of the match from the penalty spot in the first half, securing maximum points for United as they started their campaign.

After the match, Skinner mentioned that he was “not one of these managers” who avoid looking at penalties.

“When she (Le Tissier) approaches a penalty, I feel certain, I really do. It’s about skill, not whether the wind is blowing the wrong way,” he said through Manchester United’s website.

The remarks are made at a moment when Amorim keeps avoiding eye contact during penalty kicks. The Red Devils have had bad luck from the penalty spot this season, as captain Bruno Fernandes has missed two opportunities so far.

United were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town, a team from League Two, following a penalty shootout after the match.

Why doesn’t Amorim watch penalties?

Throughout penalty situations, Amorim has frequently lowered his head and refrained from watching the events unfolding within the area.

I’m not fond of watching penalty kicks. I don’t enjoy seeing penalties, but I do like the sight of the fans.

“But I was simply thinking that what is meant to happen will happen, and we realize that sometimes a single moment can alter many things,” he explained following his victory over Burnley thanks to a Fernandes last-minute penalty.

Amorim’s team secured a 2-0 victory over Sunderland in their final match before the international break, climbing to 10th position with 10 points. They will head to Anfield following the break to take on a struggling Liverpool squad.

On the other hand, Skinner’s team defeated Everton 4-1 on Sunday, staying in close competition with Chelsea at the top of the Women’s Super League standings. They have 14 points, two behind the reigning champions, Chelsea, who secured a victory over Tottenham Hotspur thanks to a powerful goal from Keira Walsh.

They face Atletico Madrid in the second match of the Champions League on Thursday.

Ex-Chelsea player proposes Amorim’s successor

In a separate report, former Chelsea player Joe Cole stated that it’s time for Ruben Amorim to leave Manchester United.

He urged the club to fire the Portuguese coach, suggesting that former England manager Gareth Southgate could be a good alternative.

Southgate was closely associated with the position last year, yet supporters have strongly rejected his possible selection.
