South Korea’s weightlifting star Park Hye-jung (22, Goyang City Hall) secured the top position at the World Weightlifting Championships following two years. On the 11th, Park participated in the women’s super-heavyweight (86kg and above) category at the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships in Førde, Norway, lifting 125kg in the snatch, 158kg in the clean & jerk, and achieving a total of 283kg to win first place in all three categories.

Although Park experienced lower back and knee pain throughout the competition, she still surpassed her competitors, such as Mari Felix Saria (Cuba), who achieved a total of 275kg to finish in second place, and young Chinese athlete Zhou Linhan (18 years old). Unlike the Olympics, where medals are determined only by total scores, the World Championships award medals for each specific category. Park, who secured second place at both the previous year’s Paris Olympics and the World Championships, claimed her second world title in her career following a two-year break since 2023.

Following the event, Park said, “My lower back and knee pain increased after I arrived in Norway, which limited my training as much as I would have liked, but I concentrated on keeping my pace until the finish,” and added, “I believe this experience will make me more resilient.” Prominent competitors like Li Yunwen (China), the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist, and Li Yan (China), the world champion from last year, were not present at this competition.

In the men’s super-heavyweight division (110kg and over), Song Young-hwan, aged 24, secured bronze medals in both the clean and press event (235kg) and the overall total weight (410kg).
