The mixed doubles team of Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran continued their path to claim their fifth championship of the year following their advancement to the semi-finals of the US$475,000 (approximately 15.2 million baht) BWF Arctic Open in Finland on Friday.
The Thai team secured a swift victory over Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai from Malaysia with scores of 21-12 and 21-14 in the quarter-finals of the World Tour Super 500 tournament held at the Vantaan Energia Areena, completing the match in 34 minutes.
They will face the world No.2 pair Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping in the semifinals following the Chinese team’s comeback victory over Lu Ming-che and Hung En-tzu from Taiwan in three games, with scores of 18-21, 21-8, 21-11 on Friday,
Dechapol and Supissara claimed victory at the China Masters a month ago, marking them as the first non-Chinese participants to secure the mixed doubles title at the Shenzhen event since it began in 2005.
Other Thai athletes are still in contention, including Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Ratchanok Intanon, and Busanan Ongbamrungphan, who will compete in their quarter-final matches later on Friday.
Another combined pair, Pakkapon Teeraratsakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, were also scheduled to compete later on Friday,
