The Nigerian Super Eagles have just reached Uyo, Akwa Ibom, in preparation for their last 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification game.

The team’s flight landed at Victor Attah International Airport at precisely 8:05 a.m. on Sunday following an unforeseen travel delay.

The postponement occurred after an in-flight emergency took place on Saturday during the team’s journey from Polokwane, South Africa, to Uyo.

The ValueJet plane, which was transporting the players, coaches, and government representatives, had made a stop in Luanda, Angola, for refueling.

The flight had resumed its normal course but was compelled to return to Luanda just 25 minutes later following a loud crack in the aircraft’s windshield, prompting the pilot to execute a precautionary turn around.

The process required all passengers to leave the vessel after it safely returned to Luanda.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials stated that emergency procedures were adhered to, with the airline subsequently providing a replacement plane to finish the trip.

The Nigerian national team, now ranked second in their group, will compete against Benin Republic in a crucial last qualifier.

A win will secure their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The group is scheduled to conduct a brief practice session later this afternoon at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
