Pakistan, Oct. 14 — For the first time this year, the Japanese animation studio MAPPA participated in New York Comic Con, taking the chance to publicize its much-anticipated 2025 film, “Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc”.
Chainsaw Man: The Reze Arc Movie will be released in North American cinemas on October 24.
The movie is the immediate follow-up to the first season of the acclaimed “Chainsaw Man” anime series, and will be released in US cinemas on October 24, after its global debut.
During a panel on Sunday, supervising producer Manabu Otsuka, assistant director Masato Nakazono, and CGI producer Yusuke Awane were present in person, delivering their remarks via a translator. Director Tatsuya Yoshihara and character designer Kazutaka Sugiyama sent greetings to the audience but could not be there in person.
“In Reze Arc, a completely new genre emerges: love, violence, action, romance, and shark,” Yoshihara said in a message delivered by the moderator. The “shark” refers to Beam, Denji’s companion, who can transform into a massive shark-shaped being.
He stated, “You can experience the excitement and suspense during the action sequences, while also recognizing the value of each character via the romantic aspects. For Reze Arc, every member of the production crew gave their utmost effort, leading to a film full of vitality.”
Sugiyama shared the same view, highlighting the team’s work in conveying the appeal of “Chainsaw Man” author Tatsuki Fujimoto’s characters. “The action sequences are like a roller coaster ride. You can simply clear your mind and have fun with them,” he mentioned.
The movie adapts the Reze storyline, presenting a mysterious girl named Reze who creates complications in Denji’s romantic feelings towards both her and Makima, the leader of the devil hunters. The Chainsaw Man, Denji, initially worked as a Devil Hunter for the yakuza to settle his parents’ debt. Following a betrayal, he breaks through the roof of a moving vehicle to face the powerful Bomb Devil. Nakazono highlighted the significance of maintaining the strengths of the TV series while broadening the narrative. “There are no spoken words between manga panels, so we need to develop that,” he mentioned.
Making sure the conversation reflects the characters’ close relationships. He mentioned that Denji thinks Reze is very adorable and the movie intends to create the same emotions in viewers. Tannawa explained the film’s visual approach, saying, “We want to ensure the 2D and 3D elements blend seamlessly into a single visual.”
