, October 14 — Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus praised the Mayor of Rome on Monday for backing the Bangladeshi community, noting their effective cultural integration and their contributions to both Italian society and the Bangladeshi economy.

“Appreciate you for looking after the Bangladeshi migrants,” said Prof Muhammad Yunus during a meeting with Rome’s Mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, at his office.

He mentioned that Bangladeshi migrants in Italy are benefiting both the local economy and their home country through essential remittances.

Djibouti’s Prime Minister meets with the Chief Advisor, requesting guidance on microfinance initiatives.

“They have become culturally integrated here. Several chefs working in leading Italian restaurants originate from Bangladesh,” said Prof Yunus.

Mayor Gualtieri also praised the Bangladeshi community for their beneficial contribution to Rome’s diverse cultural environment, stated Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.

He enthusiastically greeted Professor Yunus in his office, situated among the historical remnants of the Roman Empire, which dates back to the time of Julius Caesar.

From his balcony, he gave the Chief Adviser a quick overview of the ancient Roman Senate and nearby historical archaeological areas.

The Mayor also presented a commemorative plaque to Prof Muhammad Yunus during a meeting at his office.

The tablet displays a carved depiction of the Roman Emperor and thinker Marcus Aurelius and has been recently presented to various global leaders, including Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

During their bilateral discussion, the two leaders emphasized the significance of enhancing cultural connections between Rome and Bangladesh, particularly due to the large community of more than 50,000 Bangladeshi residents in the Italian capital.

Their conversations also covered issues such as the upcoming national election in Bangladesh, safe migration, and the potential for a future visit by the Italian Prime Minister.

Also in attendance at the meeting were Lamiya Morshed, Principal Coordinator for SDGs Affairs, and Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Italy, Rokebul Haque.
