Dar es Salaam. The World Health Organization (WHO) has formally recognized Dr Alex Ntale Gasasira as its new Representative in Tanzania, indicating a dedication to strengthening the health collaboration with the East African country.

Dr. Gasasira submitted his credentials on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mr. Cosato Chumi.

In a statement released by WHO Tanzania, Dr. Gasasira shared heartfelt greetings from WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and the WHO Regional Director for Africa, Prof. Mohamed Yakub Janabi.

Praising Tanzania’s consistent advancements in various areas, especially in the health sector, Dr. Gasasira reiterated WHO’s dedication to assisting the government in promoting national health objectives and attaining the health-focused Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Accepting the credentials on behalf of the government, Mr. Chumi thanked the WHO for its continuous assistance to Tanzania. He commended the organization’s essential role in improving health systems, developing capabilities, and boosting emergency readiness and response.

Ambassador Chumi emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing cooperation with the WHO in order to enhance healthcare results and strengthen preparedness for upcoming health issues.

At the event, both sides emphasized the significance of ongoing interaction and collaboration to maintain that the partnership is grounded in data, consistent with national priorities, and effective for communities throughout the nation.
