The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has received the Best Governor’s Award for his outstanding efforts in advancing education within the state.

The honor was given by the Mufutau Olanihun Comprehensive High School Alumni Association during a formal visit to the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on Wednesday.

Delivering the award, National President of MULCHOSA, Mr Badmus Olatunji, praised Governor Makinde for his remarkable progress in human resource development and infrastructure expansion in the education field.

He stated, “We extend our greetings to His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, from all alumni of Mufutau Olanihun Comprehensive High School since 1997. Together, we praise the governor’s accomplishments in various fields, especially in education. Hiring approximately 15,000 teachers is a significant achievement; it is unprecedented in the history of Oyo State. We acknowledge these efforts and thus present His Excellency with the Best Governor’s Award.”

Olatunji also urged the governor to assist their former school, Mufutau Olanihun Comprehensive High School, especially regarding the restoration of its infrastructure.

He stated, “The school infrastructure, valued at several billions provided by our late owner, Alhaji Mufutau Ajadi Olanihun, requires urgent repairs. Many roofs are in disrepair, and the library, laboratory, and computer room are in bad shape. We urge the state government to continue the positive support they are offering to our alma mater to bring back the school’s former prestige.”

Accepting the award in place of the governor, Segun Olayiwola, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, expressed gratitude to the alumni association for the honor.

“Many thanks; we value your recognition. It’s positive that you have taken this action,” Olayiwola stated, emphasizing the Makinde administration’s dedication to delivering excellent education throughout the state.

He confirmed that the school would soon be inspected and mentioned that Oyo State has also been awarded multiple national accolades for its advancements in education, such as teacher training programs and improvements in school facilities.

Starting from 2019, Governor Makinde has made education a central part of his administration’s plans for growth.

The state has received widespread recognition for its efforts in expanding access to high-quality education, modernizing school facilities, and improving the well-being of educators.

Under his direction, the Oyo State Government has introduced various significant programs, such as hiring more than 12,000 teachers in public schools to tackle staffing gaps and enhance educational results.

Furthermore, the government has introduced creative initiatives designed to encourage studies in science, technology, and practical training, in line with Makinde’s goal of developing a capable and competitive labor force.

These efforts have greatly enhanced academic results and boosted student enrollment throughout the state.

It occurred against this background that MULCHOSA presented Governor Makinde with the Best Governor’s Award for outstanding achievements in education advancement.
