Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezhas ignited an unusual bond inCongresswith a Southern Republican who claimed the ‘Marxist’ is his ‘friend.’
Tim Burchett, a right-wing TennesseeRepresentative, talked about his and AOC’s relationship on Wednesday during NewsNation’s town hall at The Kennedy Center.
The gathering, organized by Chris Cuomo, brought together political leaders to discuss various topics, such as immigration and the current government shutdown.
When Cuomo questioned him about the conversation, Burchett stated he “enjoyed it” and “likes bold individuals in politics,” then mentioned his friend AOC.
“You know, I can respect a liberal. I respect Cortez. She’s my friend. I mean, she’s a Marxist. She’s a friendly neighborhood Marxist, as I often refer to her,” he said about theNew York representative.
I’ll speak to her, she’ll appear in one of my videos as I exit the House floor, and I’ll say, “Hey Cortez,” and she’ll respond, “Hey Burchett,” then I’ll tell people, “Don’t stare at her for too long, she’ll take your soul.”
“We share a relationship like that, and we can make light of it. That’s the issue with what’s happening in this country at the moment,” Burchett added.
He continued by talking about another friendship he has with a person who is “likely as left-wing as possible.”

“Steve Cohen, likely as far-left as possible. You know, he’s Jewish and I try to be a Christian, we both hail from Tennessee,” he said about the Tennessee Representative.
We increased the speed limit collectively, and I often joked that we would go out for dinner at night because he was so far to the left and I was so far to the right, so we ended up meeting on the opposite side.
“But to be honest, there are times I just want to claw his eyes out, you know? But he called my mom when my dad passed away, and you can’t move past that,” Burchett said.
He then addressed the present condition of the country amidst the ongoing political turmoil.
“That’s what we’ve lost in this situation. And we had that in Tennessee, we used to fight like cats and dogs, but then we’d end up crying at our friend’s funerals, and I believe Washington, D.C. has moved beyond that,” he added.
And individuals believe it’s evolving, but I don’t think it’s actually changing because it generates profit. The violence, prejudice, and hatred are profitable, which is why you witness numerous instances of this—perhaps I’m offending some people—but I believe you see many of these situations in foreign nations, where if their youth aren’t killing each other, it doesn’t maintain those old corrupt figures in control,” he stated, continuing: “And this occurs from every perspective.
Although Burchett praised AOC, she and Bernie Sanders appeared on CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday night.
While it was happening, Sanders referred to Marjorie Taylor Greene as a ‘good’ Republican.
Following the claim that conservatives are “representing their districts and states less and instead pledging loyalty to the president of the United States,” the Vermont senator praised Greene for her work.
“So I never imagined I’d say this, but someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene claims, ‘You know what, I was elected by my voters, that’s who I’m responsible to, not the president or the country.’ So there are positive Republicans around,” he said.
Sanders stated, “If Trump would stop bothering them for five minutes and cease threatening them with a primary if they took the correct stance, I believe we could achieve progress.”
In recent years, Greene has openly expressed her opinions regarding Trump’s actions.

On Saturday, she stated to The Tim Dillon Show that “there needs to be a more intelligent approach than simply rounding up all individuals and deporting them” while talking about the president’s immigration policy.
“As a conservative, and as a business owner in the construction sector, and as someone practical, I can state, we need to take action regarding labor,” Greene said to Dillon.
And it must involve a more intelligent strategy than simply apprehending everyone and deporting them all at once.
I anticipate resistance for this, but I’m simply embracing reality from now on. If anyone is upset with me for speaking the truth, then, I apologize.
