Kenyan security personnel discharged live ammunition into the air to manage a large crowd assembled in a stadium, with tens of thousands present.
Kenyan police shot at crowds that gathered in large numbers to catch a final view of the coffin of the Kenyan opposition leader.Raila Odinga.
Odinga passed away on Wednesday at the age of 80 following a collapse during a morning walk at a hospital located in Kerala, India. Previously serving as prime minister, Odinga was among Kenya’s most prominent political figures.
Tens of thousands of grieving individuals temporarily invaded Nairobi’s international airport, disrupting a ceremony where President William Ruto and other officials were set to receive Odinga’s remains with military honors.
Masses also filled surrounding streets and attempted to enter the parliament building, which had been the planned location for the public event.
A football stadium with a capacity of 60,000 was packed with attendees as security personnel discharged live ammunition into the air to manage the crowd.
