Since that time, both countries have charged each other with breaching trade agreements before an important two-way meeting. Beijing attributes the current rising tensions to Washington’s recent enlargement of its “Entity List,” which focuses on Chinese companies alleged to be circumventing export controls on high-tech equipment.

On the other hand, the United States asserts that China’s restrictions on critical minerals have reignited trade tensions.
