The Ministry of Health revealed late at night that nine fresh samples of Tannourine mineral water collected from the Lebanese market have been found to be free from bacteria.
The Ministry, however, mentioned that it has not yet received the outcomes of tests carried out on water samples collected from the company’s production line.
“Once the results are released soon, the company will be notified based on these findings and the health inspection reports of the administrative, technical, and health conditions it must comply with to guarantee water safety and, in turn, the health of the citizens,” the Ministry stated in a release.
It mentioned that it will organize a press conference on this matter once all results are finalized.
A source from the Health Ministry informed the al-Modon news website that the Ministry had collected samples from Tannourine and other water companies following reports of poisoning incidents.
After the samples were analyzed, the results verified the existence of bacteria in certain ones, leading the Health Ministry to implement precautionary actions by halting the company’s operations and removing its products from store shelves.
Reports from the town of Tannourine, meanwhile, informed al-Modon that “the pollution of Tannourine’s water is a confirmed issue, as there are three artesian wells from which Tannourine draws and treats its water.”
“One of the wells was excavated four years back, while another was established 10 years ago, and both remain free from contamination. The issue with Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria arose due to the new well, from which the company is drawing water,” stated local town officials.
“The officials from the town of Tannourine are discussing with the company’s management how to address the polluted water issue, aiming to protect the company’s image and the livelihood of its 600 employees,” the source mentioned.
The source stated, ‘The new administration should be responsible for drawing water from the third well.’
Health Ministry officials also revealed to al-Akhbar newspaper that the Ministry examined Tannourine’s bottled water following “repeated reports of water poisoning cases,” noting that “the company was made aware of the complaints but failed to act.”
The bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa can lead to an infection that may impact the skin, bloodstream, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and other areas of the human body. These types of bacteria are frequently found in the environment, particularly in water, soil, and vegetables. The symptoms experienced depend on the location of the infection within the body. Typically, treatment involves the use of at least one kind of antibiotic.
It is uncommon for an infection caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa to occur in individuals with a strong immune system. However, it can become severe and even life-threatening if a person has a compromised immune system. Common factors that lead to a weakened immune system include:
– Autoimmune disorders, including lupus or rheumatoid arthritis
– Cancer
– Cystic fibrosis
– Diabetes
– HIV and AIDS
– Kidney disease
– Liver disease
– Organ replacements, including procedures like a heart transplant or a lung transplant
– Pregnancy
– Severe burns
– Surgery
