Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi assessed the outcomes of the last two days’ anti-polio initiative during a meeting he led at his office on Wednesday. All Deputy Commissioners and District Health Officers joined via video conference, while Additional Commissioner One Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed, and Karachi Polio Task Force Coordinator Saud Yaqoob were present in person and provided detailed updates on the campaign’s progress to the Commissioner Karachi.

The Commissioner was told that over the last two days, 864,000 children under five years old received polio drops, and 11,000 of the 34,000 children who had previously refused vaccination were now vaccinated, meeting a 30 percent immunization goal among these children.

He instructed Deputy Commissioners to guarantee that the vaccination goal is met prior to the conclusion of the campaign. It was determined that children who were not vaccinated during the campaign will receive their shots through a special catch-up initiative afterward. The meeting concluded that the responsibilities of support teams should be more impactful and that their roles should be fully activated. It was also decided that organizations whose personnel have been assigned will focus entirely on the vaccination schedule and adhere to the set hours strictly.

The Commissioner instructed all local government department officials and doctors involved in the vaccination efforts to deliver services according to the area in-charge responsibilities. The meeting was also updated on the details of children who were not included in the current campaign. It was resolved that Deputy Commissioners would collaborate with community leaders and elected representatives to implement actions aimed at completing the vaccination for these children. It was also decided that children who missed the vaccination due to fever or illness would receive drops after the campaign, following consultation with medical professionals.
