Dar es Salaam. Jubilee Health Insurance Tanzania has collaborated with Medikea Clinic on an initiative aimed at revolutionizing healthcare service provision throughout the nation.

The Long-Term Health Management Program, known as Smart Health Journey, combined with a new Telemedicine service, aims to improve health results using a tech-based method.

By combining its current medication distribution network with these services, the insurance company seeks to enhance the availability and effectiveness of healthcare.

On behalf of the Jubilee Health Insurance Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer Shaban Salehe stated that these initiatives represent a significant move in enhancing the lives of Tanzanians.

“This initiative seeks to enhance access to high-quality healthcare, making it more efficient and inclusive for everyone,” stated Mr. Salehe.

He stated that the initial phase, taking place between October 2025 and January 2026, will concentrate on two of the most prevalent long-term illnesses in Tanzania—high blood pressure and diabetes.

Via the program, participants will get individualized health guidance, ongoing health tracking, and virtual consultations with medical experts.

He stated that the services will first be accessible via the Medikea Clinic & Telemedicine App, and subsequently fully incorporated into the Maisha Fiti App following the trial period.

The head of Wellness and Corporate Relations at Medikea Health, Dr. Lilian Valerian, referred to the initiative as a transformation in healthcare.

“We are moving from a system that waits for sickness to one that accompanies individuals throughout every stage of their health journey,” she stated.

“Our goal is straightforward yet impactful—to ensure healthcare is available, ongoing, and empathetic,” she stated.

Dr. Valerian mentioned that the Smart Health Journey and Telemedicine platform, created in partnership with Jubilee Health Insurance, seeks to remove obstacles related to distance and time by offering immediate access to certified physicians and specialists, no matter where someone is located.

“Telemedicine is the way we make healthcare accessible to all, connecting those who were previously unreachable,” she stated.

She observed that the platform facilitates ongoing care for long-term health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure. It was developed in partnership with patients, medical professionals, and healthcare teams to tackle practical issues such as following treatment plans, providing emotional assistance, and improving overall well-being.

In the future, she mentioned that the Smart Health Journey plans to attract more than one million participants in its chronic illness management program by 2030. The project integrates data, digital systems, and personal interaction to develop a healthcare model.

The Tanzania Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance (TANCDA), a health and fitness specialist named Dr. Waziri Ndonde, praised the collaboration for the initiative.

He pointed out that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) including high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer continue to be major causes of early mortality in Tanzania.

“This effort enhances our fundamental health care and digital health approaches by encouraging comprehensive, patient-focused care for everyone in Tanzania,” he stated.

“We should stop viewing individuals solely as patients. They are fathers, mothers, professionals, and leaders who require robust health to achieve their goals,” he stated.

He mentioned that by incorporating lifestyle guidance, online check-ins, group support, and mental health resources, the program takes healthcare beyond hospital walls and brings it into homes, offices, and local areas.
