In 2021, when Minecraft content creator Technoblade experienced arm pain, he attributed it to repetitive strain from playing games.

But after his arm suddenly became swollen, he went to the hospital, where doctors later found out he had a sarcoma — a rare type ofcancerwhich impacts the bones and surrounding tissues — and it had spread to other areas of the body.

The online content producer, based in San Francisco, who maintained a high level of secrecy about his identity and only disclosed his name in his last video as ‘Alex’.

He became well-known throughYouTubeback in 2013 — eventually reaching over 10 million subscribers.

Nevertheless, in July 2022, one year following his diagnosis, he passed away at the young age of 23, shocking and heartbroken fans globally.

Millions of his devotees andother YouTubers have later taken uphonor his legacy, continuing to fund additional research on the condition.

Now, 21-year-old Tom Simons—widely recognized by his 24 million followers as TommyInnit—has supported Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in an effort to raise £300 million for a new pediatric cancer center in central London.London, highlighting early cancer cases in youth.

“I was a huge fan of his YouTube channel. I was 14 or 15, and he was 18,” Tom says.

I started creating comparable videos and gradually progressed within the community, which is how we met. I was very passionate, and we developed a strong friendship.

He was a person who held great significance for me. I had deep affection for him, I admired him. I revered him. Yet, he was also a wonderful friend.

“I was very young when he shared his diagnosis with me. I was in a way denying it, I was so taken aback,” he adds.

Now that I’ve had the chance to think about it, I feel a strong sense of duty to do whatever I can to assist. It’s truly the minimum I can offer.

Tom, who also serves as an ambassador for Sarcoma UK, will — making it a first in the UK — host a charitable YouTube live-streamed fundraising event on Saturday.October 18.

Known as “The Curious Case of the Copper Key,” this interactive mystery centers on six individuals who have already asserted ownership of the key — but audiences need to determine who it truly belongs to and what it unlocks.

They will collaborate with Tom and other well-known TikTok and YouTube influencers such as Abbie Budden andKeith Habersberger, also recognized as a member of the Try Guys.

“It’s a very commendable cause, and I wanted to participate in whatever I could do to assist,” Tom says.

“This occurrence will also ensure Alex’s memory continues.Besides that, it will be a lot of fun. To avoid being overused, we need optimism to support our advancement.

I hope it will demonstrate that there can be some light after the storm.

Tom, who recently went to GOSH to connect with children and their families, says: “I recall one of them telling me, ‘you’re my third favorite YouTuber’.”

So I asked, ‘Who’s your first?’ and they answered, ‘Techno.’ I thought that for these kids to have a role model who has gone through the same struggles they are facing is really something, to be honest.

Although childhood cancer is uncommon, it still occurs. Simply being able to offer such support is significant.

GOSH’s cutting-edge new facility will provide care for children with some of the most severe conditions, offering support to both the children and their families throughout the journey from diagnosis to recovery.

It will feature additional operating rooms, a new intensive care unit, an expanded hospital school for children undergoing treatment, and increased outdoor areas.

Since initiating the charity campaign two years ago, it has managed to raise slightly more than £200 million, with construction of the new facility starting in August.

It is anticipated that this will be finished by 2028, with its opening for children in 2029.

The urgency is also critical.

An increasing number of children are now being identified with cancer, with the count having increased by over 15 percent since the 1990s, as reported by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

Approximately 1,600 children under the age of 15 are currently diagnosed through the NHS each year.

Approximately 2,300 new cancer cases are diagnosed in individuals under the age of 25 each year.

However, childhood cancer gets only four percent of research funding.

GOSH supports children battling the most challenging cancers and provides treatment to the largest number of young cancer patients in the UK.

“There are significant advancements in customized and individualized medicine right now, and I am pleased to note that GOSH is leading the way,” says Sarah Bissell, deputy director of relationship fundraising at GOSH Charity.

We are also seeking innovative therapies that may substitute for treatments like chemotherapy and radiation.

“The new children’s cancer center will provide us with the space and capacity to include more children in those trials,” she adds.

And it is our strong desire that this will become a location where each child has the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial.

It will significantly change how the hospital delivers treatment.

Cancers affecting young individuals often lack a discernible origin.

The occurrence of most cancer types tends to rise with age, primarily due to the gradual accumulation of DNA damage in cells.

Injuries may occur due to natural bodily functions or as a result of encountering hazardous elements.

“We are accompanied by children who remain for some of the longest durations in the UK,” Ms. Bissell states.

If you are being treated for cancer, particularly if you are undergoing a bone marrow therapy, such as a bone marrow transplant, you could be here for up to nine months.

At this new cancer center, the sense of home is truly significant for both us and our patients.

“The public has been extremely generous, and we are truly thankful for their support,” she adds.

We still have £100 million remaining to contribute toward constructing the center.

So, these recent advancements and discovering new methods to connect with individuals, via live streams and gaming, are significant.

We are extremely thankful that Tom approached us and expressed his desire to support the initiative. This gathering not only aids the children’s center but is also going to be a great deal of enjoyment.
