The West Pokot County Administration has collaborated with the Dutch Kenyan Health Foundation to strengthen efforts in combating tuberculosis within the area.
Health and Sanitation CEC Claire Parklea led conversations with foundation representatives, who will provide technical assistance, to determine how the initiative will be implemented.
The county and DKHF will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize the collaboration, which seeks to improve TB prevention, early identification, care, and public awareness throughout West Pokot.
“We recognize the significance of collaborative alliances in tackling infectious diseases and improving health results for the community,” Parklea stated.
The CEC stated that the region still faces health issues because of its large and isolated area, and requires sufficient resources to conduct awareness programs and other initiatives in the battle against the illness.
The rate of TB in the area was significant, which is why there is a necessity for actions to address it, she mentioned.
Latest data shows that West Pokot recorded 1,617 cases of drug-sensitive tuberculosis in the previous year, including 220 children, which makes up 14 percent.
The ceremony is anticipated to occur shortly with Governor Simon Kachapin present.
The agreement will aid in providing technical assistance, gathering resources, and enhancing the skills of healthcare professionals to strengthen tuberculosis service delivery.
Parklea emphasized their dedication to enhancing public health by utilizing cooperative and creative methods.
Chief officer Priscilla Chebet, who attended the event, praised DKHF for their readiness to collaborate with the county in enhancing TB management and contributing to the health and welfare of the West Pokot community.
From their perspective, the Dutch Kenyan Health Foundation team conveyed hope that the partnership will have a substantial effect on lowering the TB prevalence in the region and enhancing general public health.
